28. Mr. Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much money has been allocated to the programme authorities in each of the last two financial years for economic development in their areas.

Mr. King

At out turn prices, about £8 million in both 1979–80 and 1980–81 was allocated by programme authorities to projects specifically aimed at stimulating economic activity in their inner areas. Other schemes also made a contribution to economic regeneration.

39. Mr. Stevens

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much money has been allocated under the urban aid programme in each of the last two financial years for economic development in the urban areas to which the aid programme applies.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much money has been allocated under the urban aid programme in each of the last two financial years for economic development in the urban areas to which the aid programme applies.

Mr. King

In 1979–80 about £36 million was allocated under the urban programme to schemes specifically aimed at economic development. For 1980–81 the figure was about £48 million. Many other schemes receiving urban aid also contributed to the economic regeneration of their areas.
