§ 29. Mr. Iain Millsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment on what criteria sales of surplus vacant land by public bodies have been made; and where such land has been listed on the published registers of surplus land within certain local authorities.
§ Mr. HeseltinePublic bodies are accustomed to dispose of surplus land in the light of their circumstances and statutory duties and no doubt they will continue to do so.
The land which is entered on the registers in the 33 districts and London boroughs I have so far designated to have them, is land which is unused or insufficiently used for the purpose of the performance of the public bodies' functions or undertakings and includes land which is surplus to requirements.
§ 49. Mr. Bevanasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many acres of surplus land held by public bodies have been disposed of in the local authorities for which registers have been published.
§ Mr. HeseltineThirty-three acres of registered land have been reported as sold to date and a number of other sales are in course of negotiation.
