asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what were the unemployment figures for the Belfast travel-to-work area at the latest date; what they were in May 1979; and what percentage these figures represent;

(2) what was the percentage of unemployed in the Belfast travel-to-work area at the latest date; and what it was in May 1979.

On 14 May 1981 the number of persons registered as unemployed in the Belfast travel-to-work area was 42,838, representing 14 per cent. of the estimated numbers of employees in the area. The corresponding figures at 10 May 1979 were 26,188, and 8.5 per cent. respectively.
