HC Deb 09 June 1981 vol 6 c108W
Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what study has been made of the feasibility of establishing a national audit office.

Mr Lawson

Proposals for the establishment of a national audit office are included in the report by the Committee of Public Accounts on the role of the Comptroller and Auditor General (HC 115) which the Government are considering. As I said in my answer to the right hon. Member for Heywood and Royton (Mr. Barnett) on 21 May—[Vol. 5, c.128]—I expect the Government's conclusions on the report to be announced before the Summer Recess.
