HC Deb 09 June 1981 vol 6 c108W
Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement about the prospects for improving the internal audit arrangements of Government Departments.

Mr. Lawson

The Government are determined to improve the quality and effectiveness of internal audit in Departments. To that end, the major spending Departments have been asked to review the level, qualifications and objectives of all their internal audit teams in consultation with the Treasury. In their development of internal audit arrangements, the Government will take account of recommendations which may be made by the Committee of Public Accounts arising from its recent inquiry.
