HC Deb 08 June 1981 vol 6 c39W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he has made an estimate of the effects upon British agriculture and consumers if the European Court determines that the restrictions placed by Great Britain on the importation of Continental milk are unlawful.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

It is not possible to make such an estimate since the implications of any decision of the court would depend upon the precise terms of the judgment and the response to it of producers, importers and consumers of milk in this country.

Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when he expects to receive a decision from the European Court regarding the restrictions placed by the United Kingdom on the importation of milk from the Continent.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

This will, of course, depend upon the proceedings in the court, but I would expect such a decision some time next year.
