HC Deb 31 July 1981 vol 9 c656W
Mr. Bradley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will call for reports from chief constables on the number of prosecutions for parking motor vehicles on pavements or verges under provisions of section 72 of the Highways Act 1835 as reinforced by section 195 of the Road Traffic Act 1972.

Mr. Mayhew

No. Information collected centrally on prosecutions, which of necessity does not identify every individual type of offence, identifies separately (i) the offence of parking of heavy commercial vehicles on verges or footways and (ii) the group of offences of wilful or unnecessary obstruction. Information on findings of guilt for such offences is published annually in "Offences relating to motor vehicles England and Wales"—offence group 19, table 4 of the volume for 1979, Cmnd. 8087.
