asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total sum from public funds that has been paid in redundancy payments under the Redundancy Payments Act for each year since its inception and in the present year to date.

Column 1 of the following table shows the totals of redundancy payments made to employees by their employers, or direct from the redundancy fund, under the terms of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978. Column 2 shows the amounts paid from the redundancy fund in rebates to employers and and direct payments to employees.
