Mr. John Evans

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many students are currently attending the police training college at Bruche; how many were in attendance in July 1980, July 1979, July 1978 and July 1977; and how many he expects to attend in each of the next three years;

(2) how much the cost of running the domestic services of the Bruche police training college is borne (a) by the North-West police authority and (b) by his Department;

(3) if he will list the oranisations and individuals with whom he has had consultations about the privatisation of the domestic services department of Bruche police training college; and which of them have indicated agreement with his proposals;

(4) how many staff, and in what grades, have (a) left and (b) been recruited to the police training college, Bruche, since 1 April;

(5) if he will consult the chief constables of Cheshire, Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside on his proposal to privatise the domestic services department of Bruche police training college;

(6) if the tenders from private contractors for the domestic services of Bruche police training college will be submitted to the North-West police committee for its approval;

(7) if he will ask the constituent local authorities which make up the North-West police committee to take over the running of the domestic services department of Bruche police training college;

(8) if he has had any discussions with the North-West police authority, since 1 June, about the privatisation of the domestic services of Bruche police training college; and whether privatisation will require the police authority's approval;

(9) how many police training colleges there are in Great Britain; and in which colleges he is proposing to privatise the domestic services departments;

(10) what is the estimated cost of redundancy payments for staff at the police training college, Bruche;

(11) what rates of pay basis he has instructed private contractors to include in their tenders for the domestic services department of Bruche police training college; who will determine what allowance should be made for any pay rises; and what will be the basis for such an allowance;

(12) if the private contractors tendering for the domestic services at Bruche police training college have been instructed to tender on the basis of per head of student attending the college; and, if not, what is to be the basis of the tender;

(13) what inflation element he has instructed private contractors to include in their tenders for the domestic services of Bruche police training college.
