HC Deb 31 July 1981 vol 9 c557W
Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Minister for the Civil Service how many civil servants earn incomes within 120 per cent. of supplementary benefit level, assuming two children aged 11 and 13 years and a £20,000 mortgage.

Mr. Hayhoe

About 436,000 non-industrial civil servants are on basic rates of pay—excluding London weighting—which before tax are less than £7,435 per annum, which is estimated to be 120 per cent. of the level of supplementary benefit in the circumstances assumed.
