HC Deb 31 July 1981 vol 9 cc648-9W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will publish in the Official Report the organisations which made representations concerning the case of Mr. Abibu Kamara.

Mr. Whitelaw

The General and Municipal Workers Union, the Liverpool trades council and the Merseyside community relations council.

Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the recent deportation of Mr. Abibu Kamara from Liverpool.

Mr. Whitelaw

It was decided on 8 February 1980 to deport Mr. Kamara for overstaying. His appeal against this decision was dismissed by an adjudicator on 7 July 1980 and leave to appeal to the immigration appeal tribunal was refused on 8 August 1980. Mr. Kamara still failed to leave the country and a deportation order was made against him on 2 March 1981. He was detained on 24 March but implementation of the order was delayed pending consideration of representations from the hon. Member and the hearing of a court case in which Mr. Kamara was the complainant. He was finally deported on 10 July.

Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, further to the letter from the Minister of State to the hon. Member for Liverpool, Scotland Exchange, dated 23 June, concerning the detention of Mr. Abibu Kamara, whether the court case mentioned has been resolved.

Mr. Whitelaw

I understand that no date for the hearing of the case has yet been fixed.
