HC Deb 31 July 1981 vol 9 c709W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) how many young people entered apprenticeships or skilled training on leaving school in the Hull travel-to-work area over the past five years; to which trade or profession they were apprenticed; and what percentage and what absolute number of the school leavers in that period they represent;

(2) whether he will publish the comparative figures over the past five years of the number of school leavers in the Hull travel-to-work area as a percentage and an absolute figure entering apprenticeships and skilled training compared with the remainder of Humberside, Yorkshire and Humberside economic region and the national figures.

Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will extend the proposed £15 per week subsidy for young people's employment offered to employers to include all young people accepted for apprenticeship for the length of their apprenticeship.

Mr. Peter Morrison

My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister announced on 27 July that a new subsidy scheme would be introduced whereby employers would be offered a weekly payment of £15 for all young employees under the age of 18 provided they were in their first year of work and provided their earnings were below £40 per week. I am not yet in a position to add to that, but I can assure the hon. Member that full details will be announced as soon as possible.
