Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what are the latest figures for the numbers and proportions of (a) one-parent families, and (b) two-parent families living in (i) private rented housing, (ii) local authority housing, (iii) owner-occupied housing with a mortgage, (iv) owner-occupied housing owned outright, (v) shared accommodation, and (vi) housing association accommodation.

The Office of Population Censuses and Surveys estimates that in mid-1979 there were 860,000 one-parent families in Great Britain. The total number of families, estimated from child benefit records, was 7.2 million.
