asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether the staffing of the careers service will be further strengthened in view of the expansion of the youth opportunities programme announced by the Prime Minister on 27 July.

Yes. In agreement with my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland and Wales I am arranging for a further 125 posts to be made available under the Government's scheme to strengthen the careers service. The Government will be considering the staffing implications for the careers service of further changes to the youth opportunities programmme in 1982–83.
