HC Deb 30 July 1981 vol 9 cc533-4W
Mr. Haynes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in view of the broad support from the National Society for Clean Air, the Institution of Environmental Health Officers, the Confederation of British Industry and others, for the recommendations of the Royal Commission on environmental pollution that the Alkali Inspectorate be returned to the direct control of his Department, he will take steps to make this transfer; and when he will make an announcement.

Mr. King

My right hon. Friend is aware of the various views of interested parties on the recommendations in the fifth report of the Royal Commission on environmental pollution including those relating to the Alkali and Clean Air Inspectorate. The Government will respond to those recommendations as soon as practicable and an announcement will then be made.
