Mr. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish in the Official Report the cost per student at each university and the average for all universities in Great Britain for the most recent year for which figures are available.

Income from recurrent grant and fees expressed per student in British universities in the academic year 1979–80 was £3,425 at outturn prices. Figures for individual universities, which would not in any case be comparable without an analysis of the relative proportions of students taking different subjects, could not be provided without disproportionate cost.
