HC Deb 16 July 1981 vol 8 cc430-1W
Mr. Soley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners in security category A were considered for parole in each of the last five years; and how many of them were granted parole.

Mr. Mayhew

All prisoners in security category A who have served a long enough period in custody to be eligible for parole and have not declined to have their cases reviewed are considered for parole; but the number of such prisoners considered for parole within a particular period is not readily available and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. No one who has been released on parole was in category A at the time of release.
