HC Deb 16 July 1981 vol 8 cc461-2W
Mr. Welsh

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what information he has regarding the amount of meat on sale in the United Kingdom which has been in store so long that it is no longer fit for human consumption.

Mr. Wiggin

It is an offence under Section 8 of the Food and Drugs Act 1955 to sell for human consumption any food which is unfit for this purpose. Local authorities are responsible for enforcing this provision, and are not required to give details of any quantities involved.
