HC Deb 16 July 1981 vol 8 c462W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether British poultrymeat inspection standards are applied to imports of French turkeys; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wiggin

The poultrymeat hygiene directive places the obligation for securing compliance with its provisions on the member State where the meat is produced. It is because we have not been satisfied that the directive's requirements are being applied uniformly throughout the Community that we have been trying to secure agreement in Brussels on realistic implementation measures which all member States will undertake to observe. We are also discussing possible modifications to existing arrangements in this country with the British Poultry Federation, local authority associations and other interested organisations.
