HC Deb 16 July 1981 vol 8 c472W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will make a statement on the financial aid available to immigrants to return to their homes; on what basis this is operated; whether it covers the cost of furniture, goods and chattels removal; and, if so, on what basis.

Mr. Rossi

My responsibility is limited to the help available under the supplementary benefits scheme. I refer the hon. Member to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Basildon (Mr. Proctor) on 1 June—[Vol. 5, c.255.] The cost of furniture, goods and chattels removal is not specifically met.

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services on what basis Ms B. L. of Forest Gate, an immigrant seeking to return home, details of whom have been forwarded to him, was offered by his Department at Woodgrange Park House her full entitlement for herself and two children; and what were the amounts so offered.

Mrs. Chalker

I received the letter to which the hon. Member refers on 13 July and will reply to it as soon as possible.
