HC Deb 16 July 1981 vol 8 c470W
Sir John Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services to what factors he attributes the increase in legal abortions in England during 1980.

Dr. Vaughan

We are concerned that the number of abortions to resident women increased by 9.4 per cent. last year. An important factor is the increase in the number of women of child bearing age, but it is not possible to identify any other specific factors.
