HC Deb 13 July 1981 vol 8 cc320-1W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has given further consideration to the need to introduce legislation to provide powers to local authorities to prevent the use of retail premises as sex shops, following his speech of 23 June, Official Report, c. 226.

Mr. Giles Shaw

My right hon. Friend together with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department, is continuing to give urgent consideration to means of control over sex shops nationally. Meanwhile, the Government have expressed their support in principle for a proposal by the Greater London Council to introduce a licensing system for sex shops in London.
