Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will list the names of all the nationalised industries for which he is the sponsoring Minister, all the subsidiary companies of those nationalised industries and the names of all companies in which his Department, or bodies answerable to his Department, have a majority or minority interest.

The nationalised industries sponsored by the Department of Industry are the Post Office, British Steel Corporation and British Shipbuilders. Companies in which the Department has a major interest are BL Ltd., Rolls-Royce Ltd. and Cable & Wireless Ltd.

Bodies answerable to the Department with subsidiaries or interests in companies are the National Enterprise Board, the National Research Development Corporation and the English Industrial Estates Corporation.

Details of the subsidiaries, associated companies or minority interests of each of these industries, companies, or other bodies are given in their published annual reports and accounts which are available in the Library of the House.
