HC Deb 13 July 1981 vol 8 c260W
Dr. Summerskill

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how many manufacturing firms in Halifax have notified his Department of expansion plans in 1981; and how many jobs they will create.

Mr. MacGregor

Since the beginning of 1981, five manufacturing firms in the Halifax travel-to-work area have approached the Yorkshire and Humberside regional office for regional selective assistance in connection with expansion plans, and three with rationalisation/modernisation plans. Two applications have so far been approved. The projects concerned are expected to create 16 jobs and safeguard 109. The office is aware of four further possible expansion projects but the employment effects of these projects are uncertain.
