HC Deb 13 July 1981 vol 8 cc276-7W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in view of the fact that there is no senior male or female officer in the Metropolitan Police from any of the ethnic minorities, whether he will request the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis to investigate this situation, with a view to changing the present position.

Mr. Mayhew

No. The highest ranking officers from the ethnic minorities are at present of inspector and sergeant rank; they need time to progress to the more senior posts.
