HC Deb 09 July 1981 vol 8 c215W
Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many council houses throughout the United Kingdom are empty; and what is the estimated total value of these properties.

Mr. Stanley

The latest estimate from local authorities of the number of council dwellings that are vacant in England is about 100,000 as at 1 April 1980. No estimates exist for the value of these dwellings.

For figures relating to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, I would refer my hon. Friend to my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland respectively.
