§ Mr. Giles ShawFrom April 1981, optional metering for all domestic consumers has been available in areas served by Anglian, South-West, Wessex and Welsh water authorities and two districts served by Severn-Trent water authority. Southern water authority operates a limited scheme to properties where the rateable value exceeds £1,000.
North-West water authority will introduce this option from October 1981 and Northumbrian, Southern (all domestic consumers), Thames, and Yorkshire, will offer the option from April 1982.
