HC Deb 01 July 1981 vol 7 c419W
53. Mr. Whitlock

asked the Secretary of State for Transport by what factor the total yield from road user taxation, including value added tax, will have increased between 1978–79 and 1981–82.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

It is estimated that the revenue from motoring and vehicle taxation—vehicle excise duty, excise duty on petrol and derv, car tax, VAT on road fuels, VAT on new cars, repairs, and servicing—will increase in cash terms by a factor of about 1.9 between 1978–79 and 1981–82. In real terms this is a factor of about 1.25.
