HC Deb 01 July 1981 vol 7 c405W
Mr. Eadie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) how many water authority reservoirs there are in Scotland, including those owned by the North of Scotland hydro-electric board; and how many of these fall within the provisions of the Reservoirs Act 1930;

(2) how many privately-owned reservoirs there are in Scotland; and how many of these fall within the provisions of the Reservoirs Act 1930.

Mr. Rifkind

A survey carried out some years ago by my Department indicated a total of some 550 reservoirs in Scotland falling within the provisions of the Reservoirs (Safety Provisions) Act 1930, of which about 430 were owned by local authorities and the two electricity boards. Ninety five were recorded as privately owned. These figures may, however, not be comprehensive.
