HC Deb 01 July 1981 vol 7 cc422-3W
Dr. Edmund Marshall

asked the Secretary of Stale for Defence what differences there are in the rules and arrangements for commutation of Service pensions for commissioned officers compared with other ranks.

Mr. Goodhart

Under the resettlement commutation scheme which was introduced in 1978 there are no differences in the rules and arrangements under which officers and other ranks may commute their pensions. Under the life commutation scheme, which is in the process of being phased out, an officer might commute up to half his pension whereas other ranks were limited to raising £1,000 by life commutation unless a larger sum could be shown to be to their distinct and permanent advantage.
