Mr. Arnold

asked the Secretary of State for Trade (1) whether final agreement on 1981 quota levels for Indonesian textile imports into the United Kingdom was reached during the previous Secretary of State's discussions with the Indonesian Government on 7–8 January;

(2) if he will give details of the 1981 quota levels for Indonesian textile imports into the United Kingdom;

(3) when he expects 1981 quota levels for Indonesian textile imports into the United Kingdom to be finally agreed between Indonesia and the European Commission.

At the discussions between my right hon. Friend the previous Secretary of State for Trade and the Indonesian Government on 7–8 January an understanding was reached on quota levels for 1981 which would be acceptable to the United Kingdom and Indonesia. These levels are as follows:

Formal agreement has not yet been reached between the Community and the Indonesian Government, but I hope that this will result from the next round of consultations between the Commission and Indonesia on 30 January and 2 February.
