Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will, during the International Year of Disabled People, advise local authorities to consult disabled people on the type of street paving which they prefer to improve mobility; and if he will make a statement.

I do not intend to issue formal advice to local authorities on this matter. However, the Department has already begun and will continue to involve local authorities in the initiatives it is planning for the International Year of Disabled People. I believe that this will help to encourage and to extend awareness within the local authorities of the needs of disabled people.
