HC Deb 14 January 1981 vol 996 cc536-7W
15. Mr. John MacKay

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will raise the rateable value limit for eligibility for housing improvement grants.

Mr. Rifkind

Rateable value limits for improvement grants were increased by the previous Government in 1978 to take account of the general revaluation which was carried out at the same time. In the absence of any subsequent revaluation, I do not consider that this would be an appropriate moment to raise limits generally again, but I would be willing to look at any justification which can be suggested for adjustments to the limits in particular areas.
