HC Deb 14 January 1981 vol 996 c528W
Mr. Stanbrook

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has any proposals to provide for an improved method of negotiating the pay and conditions of service of court staff.

Mr. Mayhew

The pay and conditions of service of magistrates' courts staff in England and Wales outside inner London are negotiated in the Joint Negotiating Committee for Justices' Clerks' Assistants, and I understand that the parties have been considering the suggestions made by the Clegg commission for alterations in the negotiating arrangements.

As regards the inner London staff, the Committee of Magistrates and the unions concerned established only last year a Whitley council and new pay negotiating machinery in the light of their joint working party's report.
