HC Deb 13 January 1981 vol 996 c497W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many American firms have set up manufacturing plants in Northern Ireland since 1960; what is the sum total of grants paid out to such firms; how many of them are still in Northern Ireland; and if he will list the names of those which have come and those which have closed or are closing, along with the products produced by each.

Mr. Adam Butler

Thirty-five American firms have established or have recently agreed to establish manufacturing plants in Northern Ireland since January 1960. Of these 29 are either still in business or have not yet commenced production. The sum total of grants paid could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. I have arranged for the hon. Member to be sent a list of the names of these companies and their products stating which companies have closed or have announced their intention to close.
