§ Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what guidance on employment is given to schoolchildren when they are provided with work permits; and if he will circulate local authorities with some general guidance.
§ Dr. BoysonThis is primarily a matter for individual local education authorities, which are responsible for controlling the employment of schoolchildren under existing legislation, and have power to make byelaws, subject to approval by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services. There are no plans at present to issue further guidance to local education authorities.
§ Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what are the latest figures available for the number of schoolchildren given work permits; how many children are thus employed; and if he will give a breakdown of occupations and other data available in the Official Report.
§ Dr. BoysonThis information is not collected by my Department.
