HC Deb 12 January 1981 vol 996 cc479-80W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what arrangements exist within the education services for enforcing the law regarding the employment of children; how many people are engaged on this; what was the cost of enforcement for each of the last three years: and what plans he has to increase the number of staff and level of resources in this connection.

Dr. Boyson

The responsibility for enforcing the law on the employment of schoolchildren rests with local education authorities. Information on the number of staff engaged on this activity and the cost of enforcement is not available within my Department. The number of staff and level of resources applied to enforcement is primarily a matter for local decision and my right hon. and learned Friend has no plans to suggest a general increase.
