HC Deb 12 January 1981 vol 996 cc415-6W
Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in what circumstances deaths from lung cancer are referred to the coroner; and what regulations apply.

Mr. Raison

Death from lung cancer does not of itself necessitate referral to a coroner. The Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages Regulations 1968 require a registrar to report deaths to the coroner in specified circumstances. These include cases where it appears to the registrar from a medical certificate that death was due to any industrial disease or industrial poisoning.
