HC Deb 11 February 1981 vol 998 c342W
32. Mr. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has any plans to improve the promotion of tourism in Scotland.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

Over the last year, my Department has participated in discussions between the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, the Scottish Tourist Board and the Highland and Islands Development Board, and substantial progress towards a more effective organisation has been achieved.

My right hon. Friend, together with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade, is also considering how within the current legislation the overseas promotion of Scotland can take full account of Scottish views and he will be giving careful consideration to the Stodart Committee's recommendations on tourism.
