Earl Alexander of Tunisasked Her Majesty's Government:
What steps they are taking to protect the interests of British subjects who live in or have bought property in the Bahamas (when it was a Crown Colony) and are now to lose their normal rights of ownership under the Immovable Property (Acquisition by Foreign Persons) Act 1980.
§ Lord CarringtonThe legislation to which my noble friend refers is before the Bahamian House of Assembly, but no date has been set for further consideration of it. We will be studying the text of the proposals and are closely watching developments and their implications for the interests of British property owners.
House adjourned at four minutes before eleven o'clock.
