HC Deb 21 December 1981 vol 15 cc287-8W
4. Mr. Douglas

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on North Sea safety with regard to recent incidents affecting rigs and platforms.

9. Mr. Dykes

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he is satisfied with safety precautions on United Kingdom installations in the North Sea and foreign-owned installations employing United Kingdom operatives.

Mr. Gray

I am satisfied that safety precautions on installations in British waters are adequate and foreign owned installations are subject to our same safety controls.

Recently the floating production platform Transworld 58 broke from its moorings. More recently, the Borgland Dolphin, an accommodation unit, was taken off station for repairs to a crack found during routine inspection. In neither case was there any loss of life or injury. Both incidents are being investigated.
