§ Mr. Dobsonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is taking to obtain views on the report of the working party on creating an independent element in the investigation of complaints against the police.
§ Mr. WhitelawAs I said in reply to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Petersfield (Mr. Mates), on 18 March, in the light of the working party's report and against the background of the general considerations mentioned in the police complaints board's triennial review report, I shall be considering further, in consultation with the police advisory board, what changes, if any, may be necessary in the present arrangements. In that reply I also said that I would welcome comments on the working party's report, and this invitation was repeated in a news release issued by my Department. I shall, of course, wish to take into account comments received from right hon. and hon. Members and others, as well as the views of the Police Advisory Board, before reaching a decision.
