HL Deb 28 October 1980 vol 414 c396WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Which of the recommendations of the Committee under the chairmanship of Mr. Justice Faulks on the Defamation Act 1952 have been enacted; what other changes have been made to the laws of defamation since Mr. Justice Faulks's Report (Cmnd. 5909 of 1975) and whether they have any further plans to amend the Defamation Act 1952.

The LORD CHANCELLOR (Lord Hailsham of Saint Marylebone)

None of the recommendations of the Faulks Committee has been implemented and there have been no changes of substance in the law of defamation since 1975. While the Government is willing to consider proposals for change, there is no present intention of introducing legislation.
