§ Mr. Spellerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider taking steps to increase the sentencing powers of local magistrates dealing with cases of extreme vandalism by young people.
Mr. Britton:The White Paper "Young Offenders" (Cmnd. 8045), published on 2 October, sets out the additional powers the Government propose to make available to the courts to enable them to deal more effectively with offences of all types committed by young people.
