§ Mr. Spellerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to remove from county councils the present obligation to provide transit sites for gipsies.
§ Mr. Monro:The Caravan Sites Act 1968 requires county councils to provide adequate accommodation by way of caravan sites for gipsies residing in or resorting to their areas. It is for those councils to decide if this requires the provision of transit sites in any area.
