asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many of the global quota of cound5,000 immigration vouchers were fully taken up in each of the years since 1968.

Mr. Raison

The annual global quota of special vouchers was set at 1,500 in 1968. On 2 June 1971 it was increased to 3,000, and at the same time an additional once-and-for-all allocation of 1,500 was made for issue over a period of six months. With effect from 3 May 1972 the annual global quota was raised to 3,500 to allow for a limited issue of vouchers to United Kingdom passport holders in India and a further increase to 5,000 was announced on 6 February 1975.

The number of vouchers issued in each year between 1968 and 1979 was as follows:
