HC Deb 24 November 1980 vol 994 c33W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps are being taken by his Department to control the black money which is being illegally earned by fishermen of other member States in the European Economic Community to the detriment of the British fishing industry and the conservation regulations.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

We maintain a substantial fishery protection effort; and wherever we find sufficient evidence of our fisheries regulations being infringed, we prosecute. Control of the activities of fishermen in other member States of the European Community is a matter for the Government concerned. If we had information regarding illegal activities which were detrimental to our national interest, we would take up the matter with the appropriate authorities.
