HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 c301W
Mr. Wall

asked the Lord Privy Seal what instructions were given to the British High Commissioner in Zimbabwe about his attendance at the Remembrance Day service.

Mr. Hurd

The Government of Zimbabwe decided this year that the Remembrance Day service on 9 November would not be an official function, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised diplomatic representatives in Salisbury not to participate. After consultation with his Commonwealth colleagues, the British High Commissioner did not attend the ceremony, but a wreath was placed on the War Memorial in the name of the British High Commission.
