HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 c447W
Mr. Ron Brown

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he proposes to recruit more staff to deal with tax evasion.

Mr. Peter Rees

[pursuant to his reply, 10 November 1980, c. 46]: The number of staff in Inland Revenue and in Customs and Excise is being reduced as a contribution to the Government's policy of having a smaller, more efficient, Civil Service. But the deployment of staff in both Departments will continue to take account of the importance the Government attach to combating tax evasion.
