HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 c396W
Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the integrated lightweight Seawolf missile system.

Mr. Speed

As my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Defence for the Royal Air Force explained last March—[Vol. 981, c.549]—lightweight Seawolf, consisting of a lightweight Sea-wolf missile launcher coupled with a Dutch fire control radar, is being promoted by British Aerospace (BAe) as a relatively light and inexpensive short range air defence system for surface ships, and one that might find a ready market overseas.

A report to the defence central committees, assessing the lightweight Seawolf system and its potential for use by the Royal Navy, will be completed early next year. I shall write to my hon. Friend when the report has been studied.
